Frankie pointed to a photo of the theater stage. “There were drag marks, but no blunt-force trauma to indicate she was physically knocked unconscious. A roofie or some other drug seems like a good bet.”

“I don’t think there was a lot of information on roofies back then. And I doubt that’s something forensics can reevaluate now, even if technology has improved since the eighties.” I flipped through more of the evidence, showing Frankie one of the photos. “Here—there was an open bottle of champagne in her dressing room. Two glasses were printed. One was Chloe’s, but the other had no match. The tox report might be a bust, but the police can rerun the fingerprints on the glass for a possible match. We could figure out who gave her the drink. And there was another print, too—a bloody one on the rope.”

“Time to go, Frankie,” Dad called out. I glanced at the clock. It took all of nineteen minutes for him to pop his head into my room, ready to walk Frankie two doors down to his own house.

“Sure thing, Mr. K.” Frankie looked back to me. “We’re close. I think we have the how—”

“Now we can narrow down the who.”
